Comments: Prego dlla piazza review. Lack luster, but legitimate.
Went there with my family days after the film festival.
I’m a vegetarian, as is my brother’s girlfriend whom also joined us, so I was looking forward to some artesian pizza.
Got there after 5 on a Friday. Empty.
Sat on patio (reservations weather permitting…a pretty perk).
We ordered. They were out of some wines. They were out of pizza dough. So they don’t make their own…and given they were top 50 in Toronto life most recently, I was surprised and disappointed.
Waited 50 minutes for appetizers.
My sister got calamari. It was chewy and overcooked first time over. returned it. it was worse upon return.
The service was good. perhaps trying to compensate…and some helpers were genuine whilst others tried too obviously to play the game of a decent waiter. Thus, the attention and unannounced refills of wine became preposterous.
The food came another 50min. later. Mean whiles the outside heaters had both run out of gas. The candles were left unlit and the busboys stood watching within an uncomfortable distance.
In the end, I ordered a pasta dish (no other veg. options) and a side of rapini, both to share. Nothing special. And although the portions were gracious, the pasta was bland and the vegetable side was very unsavory and under seasoned. I hear the meat dishes were also well proportioned though offered nothing to distinguish themselves from any other Italian restaurant.
In closing.
Not worth the trouble or money.
Prego does NOT deserve to be on the top 50 Toronto life list.
Sure, everyone has an off day…but, this was one disaster after the other and I would not go there again nor recommend it to others.
Do yourself a favour and check out ‘one’ or ‘splendido’ if you’re thinking of going upscale in the area. Both places I’ve been to, and both remain places that totally trump prego into an abyss of shit.
Thanks for reading.
All the best!

Comments: The food (the steak), ambiance, and patio - recipe for a wonderful evening. The wine list is extensive and the service is impeccable ... an immaculate evening, we had, indeed. We walked in and got the last table ... I would recommend making reservation.

Comments: After the re-opening, I must say that this restaurant has gone one notch up. Now, the food has always been excellent here, but the looks have certainly changed. The energetic staff was extremely helpful in securing us one of the nice tables on the sunny patio. It was a delight to be sitting alongside the cool shade of the Church of the Redeemer. Food was excellent. I recommend that you try their wine.

Comments: Being here just brought back the good memories. By the time we finished our dinner, we could only talk about how the place was now. I liked my steak and wines. Servers were very knowledgeable about wines (infact I had a long discussion on Italian wines). I liked my Amarone. Will be back here definitely. If I remember it correct, this is the same chef from another Italian restaurant on Yonge - can't remember the same. I think he used to own that restaurant.
