Comments: LW, Looks like we've been going to some of the same places... Lola was definitely a great disappointment! I just wish I read your review before going there... *sigh*
Enjoyed a highly-anticipated Friday night Winterlicious dinner at Beer Bistro with 7 other friends and thoroughly enjoyed it.
Appetizers included the ceasar salad for some, and the smoked salmon for others. Everyone agreed they were excellent.
Strangely enough, all 8 of us had the steak & carmalized onions for dinner; again, no complaints, all praise!
Both the Apple Cranberry Crumble and the Belgian Chocoloate Mousse were had for dessert... I had the mousse with a Fruli and absolutely loved it, and I'm not even much of a dessert person. Also had a bite of the Apple Cranberry Crumble and I can say, without hyperbole, that it was one billion times better than the apple dessert offered at Lola Steak Bistro (okay, perhaps a slight exaggeration... but still, a much better tasting and presented dessert).
Service was incredible. Our server was a younger gentleman who was very attentive to our drinks and offered a great deal of advice to help us choose beers to accompany our meals. Only slight marks taken off for the fact we did have to wait quite some time past our reservation time to be seated, but at least they had a small bar area where we could pass the time.
Atmosphere was very nice. Upscale, but still casual enough to be enjoyable. The washrooms were quite a sight with beer taps for faucets... a nice touch!
Would definitely return to the Beer Bistro, for Winterlicious 2008 or just for a good dinner with excellent service and atmosphere. Prices are very reasonable considering the size and quality of servings (note that my Price per Person includes 2 alcoholic drinks). Night and day compared to the abysmal experience at Lola Steak Bistro! | | Review Date: 2007-02-05 |

Comments: I was there with 3 other friends today for Winterlicious. Appetizers: Wild Mushroom Soup (excellent & creamy) or Salad of Winter Greens & Romaine Hearts beer bacon, (excellent but take a mint when you leave because the garlic is strong) Main course: Braised Veal Cheek (amazing, melts in your mouth), Quebec Duck & Ale Sheppard's Pie parsnip potato crust and a mixed salad (amazing),Grilled Flat Iron Steak caramelized beer onions, herb butter & redskin smashed potato (cooked perfectly for the customer) Dessert: Apple Cranberry Crumble with cherry beer, an almond crust & honey whipped cream (amazing) & Bellgian Chocolate Mousse Strawberry Früli beer & fresh fruit (heavenly - to die for)
The only criticism I had was that even though the waitress was good & attentive, the time at the restaurant was about 1 1/4 hour. I would have appreciated quicker service but we were there at noon & it was packed. I would definitely go back for a normal meal. It is a far cry from the horrible experience I had at Lola (I posted my comments under Lola). They could learn from Beerbistro.
