Comments: While I'm not the biggest Indian connoisseur ever, I can say that the Jaipur Grille is by far the best Indian food I've had to date.
Tried out their Winterlicious 2007 lunch at the end of January (though I've eaten here countless times before). Had the following:
Appetizer: Onion Bhajias Sliced Onions crisp fried in a seasoned chick pea flour batter
Main: Chicken Makhani Breast of chicken cooked in Tandoor, simmered in a creamy tomato curry sauce (Entrees served with vegetable of the day, choice of rice, roti or naan, & side of yogurt raita)
Dessert: Gajjar Halwa Shredded Carrots cooked in sweetened milk, cardamoms & Saffron, garnished with pistachios and almonds
An excellent meal for a great price. Usually they offer a lunch special where you can also get a very decent serving for around $10 in case you're considering a visit after Winterlicious has ended.
I've only had the Chicken Makhani and the Lamb Kadahi Gosht, but both are savoury and delicious, especially when accompanied with the Jaipur Grille's wonderful naan bread. Neither are very spicy nor do they overpower you with spices one might associate with Indian cuisine. However, I believe the restaurant has many spicier / hotter options which I have not sampled (such as Chicken Tandoori).
Despite the delicious food, I gave them a lower rating because the carrot-based warm dessert, while exotic and interesting, wasn't particularly agreeable with my palate and I didn't finish it. Rating the food on just the Chicken Makhani, the Lamb Kadahi Gosht and the naan bread, I'd give the food a 10! Another enjoyable offering is the Cachumber salad... a mixture of tomato, cucumber and carrot, all very spicy (but accompanied with the yogurt raita cuts through the heat).
Service was excellent, save for the fact some items were not brought out with the lunch and I had to request them. Not something I find to be common when I dine here, and the waiter (who I believe was new and possibly not as familiar with the Winterlicious menu) was very apologetic and made sure to check up on me frequently after that first mishap.
Atmosphere is very nice, and patrons range from upscale to casual. The restaurant is large, and the back area could serve as a great location for a 20+ group looking for a nice outing.
I'm not too familiar with their drink offerings, but have enjoyed a few Kingfisher beers there with my meals. Will have to check out the wines next time I visit.
I would recommend this restaurant to almost anyone, even those that shy away from Indian food. Truly a taste and service sensation, and a much better restaurant than some of the surrounding Yonge & Eglinton choices (Lola Steak Bistro comes to mind; check out my bad experience there before taking a chance on their Hot Steaks & Sexy Wines!)
