Comments: I love the Bean Bar for lunch and usually order an individual pizza which are excellent, served with a fresh garnish of dressed spring greens. If feeling 'hearty', try their steak on a bun and don't forget to specify doneness. The steak is cooked a la minute and served on a substantial roll. Great place for a group to gather for a coffee/drink together. Service as noted is spotty, sometimes not very polished but the spirit, I have found, is one of cheerfulness and willing. A lighthearted cafe with some good eats. Nice in the summer when the front windows are open to the street. Next best thing to an outdoor patio.

Comments: A very hip place to go in Westdale village near the university. Lots of professors and artsy types. Beautiful dark hardwood floors give this place a certain ambiance...too bad the waitresses are all these butchy lesbian types one of whom (for all three of my visits) felt an obligation to get way too familiar with me by asking questions like where I work and what I do etc. I admit I answered her honestly but I believe that's a funny thing to do to a stranger.
Couldn't even avoid her for the next two visits. Finally gave up
and decided not to go back. There's lots of places in Hamilton
to go for average food you know.

Comments: This is my favourite restaurant in the Westdale area. Actually, in the GTA+ area. I go there for lunch, dinner, dessert and sometimes just to take a piece of cake or two home. The sweet potato fries are to die for, the lamb shanks are the best I've had, and I have yet to be disappointed by a pasta (try the drunken gnocchi or lasasgna) or entree. There is a good selection of healthy food, vegetarian food, and food of the 'meat and potatoes' variety. The selection of cakes is so large that one must take a cake tour to understand one's choices. The big fluffy cake-ish looking cakes leave something to be desired but the rest are usually incredible. The 'orgasm' cake really is orgasmic. They also have a martini menu - not cheap but delicious. The price I've stated per person is entree plus drinks and/or cake. To go there for lunch or pasta or salad dinner is easily $10 or less.
